alt
Dr. Timothy Hodgdon received a Ph.D. in United States history from Arizona State University in 2002.

Tim Hodgdon has taught U.S. history at St. Thomas University (Fredericton, New Brunswick, Canada) and North Carolina State University. He was also awarded an Andrew W. Mellon Foundation teaching fellowship in the First-Year Writing Program at Duke University. He now serves as the moderator of the H-Net discussion list, H-Communal-Societies. Currently he is an independent scholar whose research focuses on the significance of gender in American movements for social change in the post-World War Two era. He has published articles in Communal Societies: Journal of the Communal Studies Association and Mexican Studies/Estudios Mexicanos, and several reviews and encyclopedia entries.

Columbia University Press recently published Tim's first book, Manhood in the Age of Aquarius: Masculinity in Two Countercultural Communities, 1965-83. The book is available in digital format on the Gutenberg-e website. Click here for access.

Tim sent a gift copy of the hardcover version of his book to the Mt. View Library. In it he writes the following message:

"To the students of Mt. View High School,

Get the most that you can out of your studies. That's how you will discover the teachers and ideas that will change the way you see the world. Then be sure to pass on that new way of seeing to others. If you do they will come to see the world differently too. That's how you change the world, one day and one good deed at a time. I wrote this book to take part in that process of change. I hope that it helps you see our world differently.

Tim Hodgdon, MVHS Class of 1975"
