The mission of RSU #3 is to establish an optimal learning environment in which students strive to develop high aspirations to use as a basis for working toward attaining their highest potential.
The RSU#3 communities believe that approximately three to five percent of Maine's students excel or have the potential to excel, beyond their age peers in the regular school program and require differentiated educational experiences that are aligned with the system of Maine's Learning Results/Common Core. The Gifted and Talented Program in RSU #3 is dedicated to providing those differentiated educational experiences to serve students Kindergarten through 12, in mathematics, English/language arts, science, social studies and visual/performing arts.
Students identified as Gifted and Talented in grades K-12 will have their needs met by one or more of the following:
1. Differentiation within the classroom
2. Accelerations (whole grade or content area specific)
3. On-line courses
4. University courses
5. Outside Consultant/mentor
6. Specific testing
7. Independent Study
